Purvis is a small city in Lamar County about 15 to 20 minutes South of Hattiesburg. Founded and named after Thomas Melville Purves, Purvis was incorporated on February 25th, 1888.
Located in in the Pine Belt, Purvis began as a sawmill town. Purvis is noted to be located on the highest point on the Southern Railroad between Meridian and New Orleans.
Today, Purvis is a thriving small town with a wonderful school and new small businesses opening everyday.
My good friend Kelley McKenzie has a wonderful sewing shop in Purvis, Kelley's Pins and Needles. Purvis is also home to L.T. Fish House one of the best places to eat seafood in South Mississippi.
